Legalization in Kazakhstan

As of January 30, 2001 Kazakhstan has joined the 1961 Hague Convention. Please read note by the United States Department of State:

"Dear Sir/Madam:

Effective October 15,1981, the United States joined tile 1961 Hague Convention abolishing the Requirement of Legalization for Foreign Public Documents. The Convention provides for the simplified certification of public (including notarized) documents to be used in the countries (currently seventeen) that have joined the Convention, by use of a special form called an "apostille" in certifying the document. The apostille does not need to be ribboned onto the document being certified.

Documents destined for use in participating countries and their territories (listed in the enclosure hereto) should be certified by one of the officials in the jurisdiction in which the document has been executed. Said official must have been designated as competent to issue certifications by "apostille" (usually in the Office of the State Secretary of State or his/her counterpart) as provided for by the 1961 Hague Convention. A list of the Authorities in the United States competent to issue.

The Convention will appear in due course as T.l.A.S. 10072 and in U.S. Treaty Series (UST), volume 33, probably in Part 1. It will also be included in the 1982 edition of Martindale-Hubbell.

With the Certification by the Hague Convention apostille, the document is entitled to recognition in the country of inteded use, and no authentication by this office or legalization by the Embassy or Consulate of the foreign country where the document is to be used is required.
